Description
The Cottage Holding is a house located on Ashley Main Street, dating from the late 17th century with extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features squared coursed, part banded limestone and ironstone, as well as brick, topped with slate and concrete tile roofs. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it stands two storeys high and has a two-window range of 19th-century casements with wooden lintels. The ground floor right window has a moulded stone head, while the first floor left window retains the stumps of stone mullions. There is a fire window with a moulded stone surround to the right. The left gable displays an ashlar gable parapet and has brick stacks at the ridge and end. To the right, there is an 18th-century one-unit extension that is similar in style and includes a 20th-century door with a moulded stone surround. The far right features a 19th-century brick extension that was originally an outbuilding but now forms part of the house. The left gable has a small single-light arch head window in the apex, which is now blocked. The interior has not been inspected.
