Description
The George Public House is a public house located on Ashley Main Street, with datestones indicating construction in 1745 and 1814. The building is made of squared coursed ironstone and features a slate roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it stands two storeys tall with an attic. The façade includes a three-window range of early 19th century sash windows, which have glazing bars and are set under flat stone arches. There is a central 19th century door, also under a flat stone arch. The building has a pair of hipped roof dormers, along with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. Brick stacks are positioned at both ends. The datestone on the left gable dates to 1745, while the one on the right gable is from 1814. There are 19th century single-storey extensions at the rear, and the interior was remodelled in the 20th century.
