Description

No. 14 West Street is a house with probable origins in the 17th century, featuring a datestone marked B/GM/1740 that was restored in the 20th century. The building is constructed of regularly coursed limestone, squared coursed and banded limestone, and ironstone, topped with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally likely designed with a two-unit plan, it now has an L-shape and consists of a single storey with an attic.

The elevation facing West Street has a gable that projects forward to the right. It features a one-window range on the left, which includes a 19th-century style casement window beneath a wooden lintel, and a gabled eaves dormer in the attic above. The left gable is made of banded limestone and ironstone and has a three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window in the attic. The return wall of this gable has a 20th-century canted bay window with leaded lights. The building also has ashlar gable parapets, with a brick chimney stack at the apex of the right gable and an ashlar stack at the left end.

The right elevation has two gables, which have been partly restored in the 20th century. The rear elevation features a 20th-century door in the centre and a 20th-century extension to the left. Inside, the room to the left of the main front includes an open fireplace with a bressumer.
