Description

This is a house, now a house and shop, dating from 1677 with later additions in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is located on Church Street, Easton on the Hill. A datestone reads "H/RM/1677", indicating it was built for Robert Henson under a lease from Browne’s Hospital of Stamford. A later datestone "ISM/1680" marks an extension built for John Shirley. The shop itself dates from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and ironstone, with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally a two-unit plan, it was extended to three units in 1680. The front is two storeys high and has a three-window arrangement. The far-right window is a three-light stone mullion window. The ground-floor mullions of this window are ovolo-moulded, while the first-floor mullion is chamfered. Other windows are 19th-century casements, all set under wooden lintels. A two-light window on the right was originally a doorway. A 20th-century six-panel door is located to the left of centre and is also set under a wooden lintel. A raised band runs between the floors. A straight joint is visible where the main range meets the right-hand bay. The central ashlar stack has a pulvinated frieze. There is also an ashlar stack at the right end and a stone stack at the left end. A one-bay, two-storey extension, now a shop, is attached to the left. It has a 19th-century casement window on the first floor. The interior is not documented but is said to contain an open fireplace.
