Description

This is a late 17th-century house with later alterations, located on Church Street in Easton on the Hill. A datestone indicates 1822, and the building also incorporates elements from the late 19th century. The house is constructed of squared coursed limestone, along with ironstone and yellow brick, and has a Collyweston slate roof. Originally built on a 2-unit plan, it now has an irregular L-shaped layout. The house is partly single-storied with an attic, and partly two-storied. The front elevation, facing Church Street, has a four-window arrangement of 19th and 20th-century casement windows, some with glazing bars, each set beneath a wooden lintel. A gable to the left is two stories high. Two gabled eaves dormers in the attic, positioned centrally and to the right, have 19th-century casement windows. The main entrance, a six-panel door, is located to the right of the centre of the front elevation and has an integral lintel with a central casement window. Chimneys are made of brick and stone, with a lateral brick stack to the left. A stone stack at the apex of the left gable features a datestone positioned below. A straight joist connects the main range to the bay furthest to the right. The rear elevation includes a late 19th-century brick extension in the centre. The interior was not inspected, but it is noted to have previously contained a bakehouse to the rear.
