Description
Bank Cottage is located on Church Street in Easton on the Hill. This building, which is now a single dwelling, was originally two houses and dates from the mid to late 18th century. It features a datestone marked F/MB/1811, indicating its connection to the Fitzjohn family. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and has Collyweston slate roofs.
The elevation facing Church Street has a two-window range on the first floor, featuring 19th-century style casements set beneath the eaves, along with a similar window under a wooden lintel on the ground floor to the left. The entrance is through a passage on the right, also under a wooden lintel, which previously provided access to the dwelling at the rear. There are stone stacks at both ends of the building, and a datestone is positioned between the first-floor windows.
The rear dwelling, which is linked to the front range by a 20th-century glazed corridor, retains its 18th-century character and includes early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars on the rear wall and gable end. Inside, the rear range features an open fireplace with a bressumer and a winder stair alongside it. There is also a stud-framed partition between the rooms on the first floor.
