Description
No.16, Church Street is a house dating from 1819, built of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan and an attached barn, it has been altered to become a three-unit plan set at right angles to Church Street.
The elevation facing Church Street is a single-window range, with a shallow, altered 20th-century bow window at ground floor, flanked by recessed panels that likely originally housed shutters. A plain sash window at first floor has a moulded wooden surround with roundels at the corners. A raised band sits at ground floor cill level. A half-hipped roof slopes down to a lateral stack on the left.
The elevation to the right is an irregular four-window range at first floor, with three sash windows featuring glazing bars and set under the eaves, and one casement window furthest to the right. The ground floor has 20th-century casement windows. A four-panelled door, with fielded panels, sits under a wooden lintel to the right. There is a 20th-century door to the left of centre, and a further four-panel door to the far left, also under a wooden lintel. The centre section of the house is rendered, with a central stone stack. The elevation to the left of Church Street has a break towards the centre, with sash and casement windows on the far left and right. The interior of the property was not inspected.
