HIGHAM FERRERS COLLEGE STREET SP9568NE, SP9668NW (West side) 17/36, 18/36 Chichele College, perimeter wall gateway and attached foundations GV II

Perimeter wall and gateway to Chichele College. c.1422, modified C19 and C20. Regular coursed and squared coursed limestone. C15 gateway has 2-centred head and moulded stone surround with decorated spandrels, in western section of wall. Attached foundations originally formed part of college buildings. The college was founded by Archbishop Henry Chichele. Forms perimeter wall to Chichele College with Chichele College, south and east ranges (q.v.) and forms group with Chichele College, north range (q.v.) and Chichele College, ground of foundations (q.v.). Chichele College is scheduled as an ancient monument and under the guardianship of the H.B.M.C.E. (Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.256).
