Description

The Green Dragon Hotel is an early 18th-century building, substantially altered in the mid- and late 18th century and partially remodelled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a slate roof. The building has a three-part layout, featuring a carved arch to the right of the central section. It has a five-window front with sash windows, margin lights, shallow arch heads, and 19th-century rusticated ashlar surrounds. A 20th-century door is located to the left of the centre, and a carriage arch is positioned to the left of the centre, featuring a shallow arch head. A bay to the far left appears to be from the 19th century, as indicated by an irregular straight joint separating it from the main range. Brick stacks are visible at the ridge. The rear yard is bordered by buildings of early 18th-century origin, with those to the right attached to the Old Forge House at No. 2A, College Street. The entrance hall contains a late 19th-century staircase. Rooms at the rear feature large, chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The building is included on the list primarily for group value.
