Description
This is a house dating from the 17th century, with substantial alterations in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Constructed of squared coursed limestone, it has a roof of plain tiles and slate. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, the house now has a symmetrical facade with four windows across the front. The windows are irregularly spaced, unhorned sash windows with glazing bars, set under wooden lintels. The window furthest to the right is a twin sash window. The ground floor window to the right is a 17th-century four-light stone mullion window with leaded lights, and a similar 19th-century copy is located to its right. A 19th-century ribbed door is within an ashlar porch situated to the right of the centre of the building. The left side of the building features an ashlar gable parapet, while brick and ashlar stacks are present at the ridge and end. A moulded cornice adorns the centre stack. A mid-19th century carriage arch with a sash window above is attached to the right, and visually integrates with the facade of the adjacent property at No. 12 Market Square. The rear elevation was reconstructed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, featuring a slate roof and sash windows.
