Description
Chichele College is a former college established around 1422, located on College Street in Higham Ferrers. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and originally featured a quadrangle layout. The remaining structures include the south range and parts of the north, east, and west ranges, which were originally two storeys high. The gable end of the north range shows a square-headed window opening at the ground floor and the remains of a similar opening on the first floor, although no interior features of this range remain. The building has a chamfered plinth, and the attached foundations were originally part of this range. Chichele College was founded by Archbishop Henry Chichele and is part of a group that includes the south and west ranges, the group of foundations, and the perimeter wall gateway with attached foundations. Chichele College is also scheduled as an ancient monument and is under the guardianship of Historic England.
