Description
The building at 20 Sheep Street in Wellingborough, now serving as the Environmental Health Department, is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a distinctive chequered pattern of red and white bricks and features a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, with a three-window range.
The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door topped by an arched fanlight with glazing bars, framed by an arched head surround and panelled reveals. At the ground floor, bow windows feature triple sashes, while the first and second floors have sash windows that decrease in height on the second floor. All windows include glazing bars and gauged brick treads. There are brick stacks at both ends of the building.
Inside, the property retains an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade, along with some six-panelled doors and moulded plaster cornices.
