Description
Rose Cottage is a house, now functioning as both a residence and a shop, believed to date from around 1603 and remodeled in the mid 18th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed and regular coursed ironstone, topped with a slate roof, and features an L-shaped plan. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a main front that includes a three-window range of 19th-century sashes set in 18th-century openings, all under wooden lintels. The central entrance features a five-panelled door with a reeded and panelled wood surround and reveals, topped by a fanlight. A moulded stone cornice adds to the architectural detail, along with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. The roof is adorned with a pair of dormers featuring pediments, and there are brick stacks at each end. The rear of the building has 19th-century brick extensions, while the left gable was rebuilt in brick in the mid-20th century. Inside, the ground-floor rooms have panelled window reveals.
