Description
Istra House, part of the University of Buckingham, is a house that now serves as a student residence. It dates from the early 19th century, although it has older origins and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is rendered over coursed limestone rubble and features a plain-tile roof with brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan and is two stories high with a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with panelled reveals and a moulded wood surround. The ground floor has 20-pane sash windows, while the first floor features 16-pane sash windows. Additional architectural details include a plinth, cogged brick eaves, and three gabled roof dormer windows that contain two-light casement windows. Inside, there is a 19th-century dogleg staircase, which has been altered in the 20th century, leading from the ground floor to the attic. This staircase features stick balusters and turned newels.
