Description
The Bartlett family vault, along with associated chest tombs and headstones, is located in the Old Churchyard in Buckingham. This structure dates from the 18th century and early 19th century. It features a large, low rectangular family vault made of limestone ashlar, with rusticated quoins that serve as a base for a pair of chest tombs at either end, both of which have balustered corners and are from the early 19th century. Between the chest tombs, there are headstones facing Hunter Street to the west, which have segmental tops and three winged cherub's heads above scrolled cartouches that bear inscriptions. One of the headstones commemorates Esther, the wife of Robert Bartlett, who died on February 19, 1763. All the memorials honor various members of the Bartlett family. The vault is situated close to the revetment wall of the Old Churchyard and overlooks Hunter Street to the west.
