Description
Church Cottages are a row of five cottages located on Henley Road in Medmenham. The building features a 17th-century cross wing on the right, two central bays likely from the 18th century, and an early to mid-19th-century bay on the left. The 17th-century wing is timber framed with brick and plaster infill, part of which is whitewashed. The central bays are made of chalk rubble, rendered and colorwashed, while the left bay is constructed from flint and brick. The cottages have 20th-century tile roofs and brick chimneys, with those on the center and right partly made of thin brick. The structure is one storey and attic high, with the 17th-century gabled bay projecting to the right, featuring paired wooden casements and an entry on the right side. The central bays include a horizontal sliding sash window on the left, a three-light wooden casement on the right, paired wooden casements in gabled dormers, and flanking board doors, with the left door set in a 20th-century porch. The right bay has two storeys with wooden casements that have segmental heads and a board door located in a 20th-century porch to the right. Inside, the central bays contain re-used crucks serving as tie-beams and collars, along with re-used heavy purlins.
