Description
Plomer Green Cottages is a row of five cottages located on Littleworth Road in Downley. The right bays are dated 1821 on a plaque, while the two left bays are likely from the mid to late 18th century and were remodeled in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of flint with brick dressings, and the left gable end is rendered. They feature offset eaves, an old tile roof, and three brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high with five bays.
The windows are paired wooden casements with 20th-century glazing, and the ground floor windows have segmental heads. There are four old board doors set in gabled brick porches, which have segmental arches supported by offset corbels. To the left, there is another entry in a brick lean-to, featuring a panelled top-lit door and a wooden porch with a steep dentilled pediment, a plain frieze, and plain corner posts. Between bays two and three, there is a fire insurance plaque depicting a galleon. The rear of the cottages has 20th-century brick extensions. Inside the left bays, there are spine beams with narrow stopped chamfers.
