Description

Downley Farm Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations and extensions added to the rear in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The front is made of whitewashed brick, featuring a dentilled band course at the first floor and a rendered plinth. The gables are brick, with the left side pebbledashed and the right side weatherboarded. The rear extensions are constructed from brick and flint, topped with old tile roofs and a central brick chimney. The cottage is two storeys high and has two bays. It features three-light barred wooden casements, with the ground floor windows having segmental arches; the lower left window was replaced in the 20th century. There is a central 20th-century board door and 20th-century three-light wooden casements in the right gable. The rear bays were built in different styles during the 19th century, with the left bay having a hipped roof with dentil eaves and some flint, while the right bay is gabled. Inside, there are some traces of timber framing.
