Description
Horseshoe Cottage is a house that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 17th century, early 19th century, and 20th century. The exterior walls were rebuilt in brick in the early 19th century, with some flint present at the rear. The rear walls are whitewashed, and the left gable features some weatherboard cladding. The cottage has an old tile roof that is half-hipped to the left, with a brick chimney situated between the right bays.
It is a single storey with an attic and consists of three bays. The windows are wooden casements with single horizontal glazing bars, including two three-light and two two-light windows on the ground floor, one of which is in a blocked doorway between the left bays, all featuring segmental heads. There are also two-light gabled dormers at the eaves line in the left bays. A 20th-century gabled brick porch is located between the right bays, and there is a 20th-century two-storey brick extension at the rear.
Inside, the left bay has flanking cruck trusses, original purlins, curved wind-braces, and heavy floor joists. The centre bay features a stop-chamfered spine beam.
