Description

This is a weatherboard barn located at Downley Farm on the north side of the farmyard, dating from the mid-18th century. It features a timber frame with weatherboard cladding and a plain tile roof that is half-hipped at the east end. The barn consists of three bays and has central opposed cart entries, with the entry on the south side situated in a half-hipped gabled midstray, along with an added lean-to on the left.

Inside, the frame includes a sole plate, jowelled wall posts with straight braces connecting to the tie-beams and wall plates (some of which have been removed), and large-scantling studs. There is no mid-rail, and it has long raking braces. The roof is supported by queen strut trusses, one of which features curved struts, clasped purlins, mostly replacement rafters, and a later plank ridge. This barn is an important part of the farmyard group.
