Description
The South East Barn at Old Lodge Farm is a barn built in the mid-18th century. It features weatherboard cladding over a timber frame, which is set on a brick plinth, and has a half-hipped slate roof that was added in the 19th century. The barn has a five-bay layout with a central threshing floor. There is a gabled midstrey that includes plank doors with strap hinges, and to the left of the midstrey, there is a lean-to granary raised on brick piers, also with a plank door that has strap hinges.
Inside, the barn has a timber frame with straight wall bracing and unjowled storey posts. The tie beams of the queen-strut trusses are supported by straight braces, and the roof features clasped purlins. The threshing floor is made of York stone. The walls were originally rendered above the mid rail, but the 18th-century weatherboarding and render are now exposed in the granary lean-to.
