Description
The south west barn at Old Lodge Farm is a structure dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features weatherboard cladding over a timber frame that is set on a brick plinth, topped with a half-hipped slate roof from the 19th century. The barn has a five-bay layout with a central threshing floor. A gabled midstrey is present, which includes strap hinges on the plank double doors and a dovecote set into the gable. To the left, there is a lean-to roof covering an open-fronted shelter shed, while to the right, a granary is raised on brick piers and has strap hinges on its plank door. Inside, the barn boasts a York stone threshing floor and a timber frame with straight wall bracing. The storey posts are unjowled and feature straight braces to the tie beams of queen-strut trusses, which have staggered butt purlins. The original render and weatherboarding are preserved on the right and rear sides of the barn.
