Description

A house, likely dating from the late 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and early 19th centuries, and further changes in the late 20th century. The original timber frame has largely been replaced with flint and brick, with a tile-hung return on the left side. The roof is tiled, and there are brick stacks. The house has one storey with an attic, and two storeys (now reduced to one), comprising two original bays with a third bay added in the early 19th century. An 18th-century wing extends to the rear left, while a 20th-century outshut is on the left and a rear addition is of no particular architectural interest. The two bays on the left feature a late 20th-century gabled porch with a board door, flanked by leaded windows and gabled dormers above. A late 18th-century stack is located at the right end. The added bay has a blocked segmental brick-arched doorway on the right, and windows on both floors, the ground-floor window being a 20th-century replacement and the first-floor window bricked up. The rear wing has windows on each floor and an external stack on the right. The right return shows a blind pointed-arched window on the first floor. The interior reveals an original rear wall, timber-framed with brick infill, which has been partially opened up. A deep fireplace with a timber bressumer is present at the original right end, along with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, old joists, and original board doors. The building is included on the list for its group value.
