Description

The Manor House is a house located on Medmenham Ferry Lane, dating from the mid-15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and extensive restoration completed in 1903 by Sir Reginald Blomfield for Hudson Ewbanke Kearley of Wittington. The building features whitewashed roughcast with some half-timbering and plain tile roofs, along with brick chimneys—one to the right of center made of thin brick and another to the left that has been rebuilt with a recessed panel.

The house has two storeys, with the upper floor jettied on brackets, and consists of five bays. The first, second, fourth, and fifth bays are gabled and project from the main structure. The 1903 leaded casements are present throughout, with the outer bays showcasing large gables, two paired casements on the ground floor, and gabled oriel windows on the first floor. The second and fourth bays have smaller gables and paired casements, with bay two featuring a 1903 door set in a four-centred arch. The central bay contains two and three-light casements on the ground floor and a two-light gabled dormer above. The ground floor windows in the right bays are fitted with 1903 board shutters that have pierced heart motifs.

On the right side of the house, there is a narrow central projection and a 1903 extension that has flint and brick lower walls with a half-timbered upper storey. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments describes the central hall as retaining a 15th-century arched truss. The interior was not available for inspection in 1985. This house may be the one mentioned in the will of Geoffrey Pole, the grandfather of Cardinal Pole, from 1479.
