Description
Duffields is a house located on Medmenham Ferry Lane, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with an extension added around 1900-1905 by Sir Reginald Blomfield. The original cottage features a timber frame with slight scantling, straight angle braces at the front, and curved braces at the gables. The front and left gable have thin brick infill, while the right gable and rear are rendered. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a brick chimney on the right side. The cottage is one storey with an attic and consists of two bays. The left bay has paired wooden casements, with the upper window located in a gabled eaves-line dormer, while the right bay is blind.
To the right, there is a half-timbered single storey extension. Access to the house is through the c.1900 extension at the rear left, which is a large L-plan building featuring a red brick ground floor, tile-hung upper storey, and a plain-tile roof. This extension is two storeys high with a gabled projection to the left. It includes leaded casements and a central panelled door topped with a moulded and shaped cornice hood supported by Doric half-columns. The extension was built as a village institute and was a gift from Mr. H.E. Kearley of Wittington.
