Description
This is a pair of houses located on the north side of Winslow Market Square. They date from the late 18th century, but incorporate elements of an earlier building. The front facade is constructed of brick with gauged brick heads to the openings. A rendered band course runs along the first floor, and there's a plain parapet topped with a small, moulded stone cornice. The roofs are tiled and hidden behind the parapet, with brick stacks projecting from the roofline.
The houses are three storeys high plus a basement, with three bays. The ground floor windows on the left and first floor are triple-hung barred sash windows. The right-hand bays on the ground floor have 19th and 20th-century canted bay windows with ogee lead roofs. The second-floor windows are serlian windows with barred sashes. Basement openings are arched with cut brick, and the doorways between the bays are set back in panelled reveals, each topped with a semi-circular arch, a fanlight, and a rendered impost block. The left-hand door has six panels, with the upper panels shaped and a radiating fanlight. The right-hand door is glazed with a plain fanlight. The left-hand gable was renovated in 1891 using pebble-dash render, tile hanging, and bargeboards.
A smaller house, built between the 17th and 18th centuries, is attached to the rear and exhibits some timber framing with brick infill in its gable. The rear facade facing Church Walk is whitewashed brick and features a first floor band course, an old tile roof, brick chimneys, and two bays. It has irregular, leaded casements and a 20th-century door.
