Description

Turville Park is a house that may date from the late 17th century but is typically attributed to around 1740, built for the Perry family. It underwent alterations in the 19th century and was stuccoed in 1885. The 19th-century extensions were demolished in 1969, and the remainder of the building was restored in the 1970s. The house features whitewashed stucco, a hipped and sprocketted tile roof, and rebuilt brick chimneys. It is a double pile structure with two storeys and an attic, comprising five bays. The front is rusticated with raised quoins and has a moulded eaves cornice with modillions added in the 1970s. The former attic storey and parapet have been removed. The windows are three-pane sashes with stucco architrave surrounds and sills on brackets. The ground floor windows have dentilled pediments on brackets, with two on the left dating from the 1970s, while the upper windows feature brackets supporting the cornice. There are three hipped dormers with paired barred wooden casements. The central entrance has 20th-century double doors with a heavy cornice hood supported by fluted columns. Short flanking screen walls, both from the 20th century, are present, with the right one masking a flat-roofed extension. The interior was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries, retaining a boxed cornice that may date from the 18th century.
