Description

Turville Heath House is a house that originally dates from the 17th century, with two bays on the left side. It was extended and refronted in the early to mid-19th century, with further extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries to the right and rear. The original rear wing is likely from the 18th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and render, topped with slate roofs, and features a hipped roof over the main block of four bays on the right. A 17th-century brick chimney with three grouped shafts is located between the left bays, while other chimneys are also made of brick. The original rear wing is built of flint and brick. The house is two storeys tall and has five bays. The left bay is slightly lower and contains three-pane sash windows. The three central bays create a double-fronted facade from the early to mid-19th century, featuring plain pilasters between the bays, canted bay windows flanking the door, and 4-pane sash windows flanking 3-pane sash windows on the first floor. The door is half-glazed and includes a rectangular fanlight, along with a re-sited wooden porch that has slender Doric columns and a cornice hood sourced from Eton. A matching bay has been added to the right.

Inside, there are some traces of timber framing in the left bays, and an upstairs fireplace features a chamfered four-centred plaster arch in the left bay. There is also some early to mid-18th-century panelling in the upper and lower rooms of the left bay, along with a chamfered spine beam with bar stops and stop-chamfered joists in the adjacent bay. The 17th-century staircase, likely re-sited, has a rounded handrail and shaped splat balusters.
