Description

The bank barn and byre range, located about 40 yards southwest of Gilts Farmhouse, were built at right angles to the road. The barn features a dated door lintel from 1675, which is weathered but believed to have the initials I.W., and the byre has a dated lintel from 1706 with the initials T. & A.W. The structure is made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and has graduated slate roofs, including an outshut at the rear of the barn.

The two-storey barn has five bays and a central plank door set in a decorative chamfered surround with the dated lintel above. There are two small windows on either side of the door, one of which also has a chamfered surround. Above the central door, there is a plank winnowing door framed in a chamfered surround. At the center rear, there is a first-floor wagon entrance that provides direct access from the hillside.

Adjoining to the west is a single-storey, two-bay byre range. This range has a plank door in a chamfered surround with a dated lintel on the left side and a garage entrance with plank double doors on the right. There is a range of buildings next to the west of the byre that are not of interest.
