Description
The Gibson Memorial and its railed enclosure are located about 40 yards to the east of the chancel in St Lawrence's churchyard. This memorial was likely created around 1811 for the Gibson family, who also commissioned the church porch with similar detailing at that time. However, it may date back to 1779, as the earliest name recorded on the memorial is for Isabella Gibson. The structure is made of stone and features wrought-iron railings. It has a square plan, with a plinth that includes 3-foot-high railings, cast-iron urns at the corner posts, and studded standards along the top edge. The memorial itself stands approximately 5 feet tall, although its finial has been broken off. It is designed in the shape of a crocketed pinnacle, with names inscribed on trefoil-headed panels on each face.
