Description
The Dent tombs and railed enclosures are located in St Lawrence's churchyard, approximately 8 yards to the south-west of the chancel. These tombs are for members of the Dent family, specifically Elizabeth Dent, who died in 1847, and Lancelot Dent, who died in 1853. They are made of stone and feature cast-iron railings. Each tomb has a low stone plinth topped with a ridged slab, a segment-headed footstone, and a taller segment-headed marble headstone that includes inscriptions and carved coats-of-arms. The railings are about 2 feet high and have central cast coats-of-arms on the sides, flanked by ornate foliate panels. The octagonal corner posts are topped with ball finials, and the top rails are spiked.
