Description
This is a barn and byre range, dated 1792, located approximately 20 metres east of Birchfield Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building consists of a long range with a barn at the north end, which has approximately five bays, and a two-storey byre with a hay loft over at the south end, comprising about three bays. Notable architectural features include quoins, a segmental-arched barn entrance with quoined jambs, and a moulded plaque inscribed 'M D'. There is a blocked byre door to the left and a board door to the byre dated 1792 on the right, along with long jamb stones and large plain lintels. An inserted eight-pane window is located between the doors, with a two-light flat-faced mullion window above it. The building also has shaped kneelers and gable copings. On the right return, there is a straight flight of stone steps leading to a quoined doorway at the centre of the first floor, and an owl-hole is present in the gable.
