Description

This is a milestone located approximately 5 meters east of Scar Foot Bridge on Hawes Road in Garsdale. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and is made of cast iron. The milestone has a triangular shaft with a flat-faced semicircular head, which is painted white. It features raised black lettering that reads "SEDBERGH & HAWES / ROAD" on the head, "SEDBERGH / 8 MILES" on the left side, and "HAWES / 8 MILES" on the right side. This milestone is one of a series of six in the parish.
