Description
Trainlands Farmhouse with adjoining byre is a house and byre dated 1755, as indicated by the initials WID and RD on the door lintel. The building features coursed, squared rubble, with the house being wet-dashed and topped with graduated slate roofs. It was possibly originally designed as a cross-passage plan, with the house extending into the original byre and a new byre added. There is a wing at the rear of the house and an outshut at the back of the byre.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall, while the byre is slightly lower. The five-bay house includes a panelled door set in an elliptical-headed surround, with three windows to the left in stone surrounds (a Yorkshire sash, a mullioned three-light window, and a single-light window) and two windows to the right. On the first floor, there are two two-light mullioned windows to the left and two Yorkshire sashes to the right, all within stone surrounds. The building features mid and end chimneys with brick stacks on stone bases.
The three-bay byre has had its eaves raised and includes three plank doors at ground level, with steps leading up to a plank loft door. A lean-to has been added to the return of the byre.
