Description
Wydon Eals Farmhouse and the former byre on the east return is a farmhouse and byre combination, with the farmhouse dated 1759 on the door lintel and the byre from the mid to late 18th century. The farmhouse is constructed of tooled dressed sandstone, featuring a Welsh slate roof and ashlar chimneys, while the byre is made of squared rubble with a concrete-tiled roof.
The farmhouse is two stories tall and has three bays. It has a chamfered plinth and raised quoins. The central door, which has been replaced, is set in a rusticated surround, and the 1759 lintel is partly obscured by an unsympathetic 20th-century porch. The windows are 12-pane sashes in raised surrounds. The steeply-pitched roof has moulded coped gables and shaped kneelers, with stepped end stacks that have corniced tops.
To the right, the two-story, two-bay byre features a central doorway with alternating jambs and a replaced door, along with two rectangular openings located just under the eaves. The roof of the byre is hipped over the right return. At the rear of the house, there is a low two-story outshut. The byre is included for its group value with the farmhouse.
