Description
Featherstone Bridge is a single-track road bridge over the River South Tyne, built around 1775. It is constructed from tooled ashlar sandstone and features similar designs on both faces. The bridge has a single segmental arch that is approximately 25 meters wide, with flush voussoirs, an arch band, and a triple keystone. The arch is supported by wide, slightly projecting piers and rests on side walls that have chamfered plinths and top bands.
The parapet is characterized by a wide band and projecting chamfered coping. The horizontal section of the parapet extends beyond the keystone and then slopes down to the south. It ends at projecting piers that have pyramidal caps. There is a plaque above the keystone on the inner face of the west parapet that reads "FEATHERSTONE BRIDGE." The north end of the parapet has curving walls, while the south end features splayed walls.
