Description

Two outbuildings and a linking wall near the north range of Featherstone Castle date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of squared and coursed rubble with concrete-tiled roofs and stone chimneys. The buildings form two parallel ranges on either side of a stable yard, with the linking wall at the west end of the yard.

One notable feature is a recessed beehive located within the gable of the stables. The beehive is rectangular and has an external opening covered by a renewed wooden panel, measuring approximately 30 centimeters by 35 centimeters, which includes a flight hole about 20 centimeters by 2 centimeters. The beekeeper accessed the beehive through a hatch in the attic floor of the stables, and it was last used before World War II.

The north range is two stories high with six bays and was formerly a barn and coach house. It features two elliptical coach arches, although the arch in the end bay is now blocked. There is a doorway with alternating jambs flanked by boarded openings and a loading bay above, along with four rows of breathers on the west gable end. A continuous single-storey outshut with a pent roof is present on the north side.

The south range, which is also two stories high with five bays, now serves as a workshop and storage area. It has altered openings that include some 19th-century two-light mullioned windows and crow-stepped gables, with end stacks on the roof.

The linking wall includes a taller embattled section on the north side with a wide elliptical archway. These structures are included for their group value.
