SD7086 DENTDALE 162-1/25/73 (South side) Barn approx. 10m north-east of Geslings

GV II

Bank barn. Probably later C18 or early C19; altered. Roughly coursed sandstone rubble with through-stones and quoins; asbestos sheet roof. rectangular plan on north-south axis, at right-angles to slope, with shippon under north end; lean-to added to south end. Probably 3 bays. The west side has 4 interrupted courses of through stones, a large square wagon doorway at the south end with a wooden lintel protected by a stone slate drip-band, and a window at the lower level of the north end, with a stone slate drip-band; the lean-to to the right has a similar doorway with similar lintel and drip-band, now reduced in width by blocking of the right-hand half. The north gable wall has 3 shippon doorways and 5 courses of through-stones. The east side has a wagon doorway opposed to that at the front and similar to it. INTERIOR not inspected. Forms group with Geslings. Included for group value.
