Description

A bank barn, likely dating from the late 18th century, is constructed of limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and an asbestos roof. A slate roof remains over a southern extension, which incorporates a stable on the ground floor with a loft above. The west wall features a wide segmental arched entrance at the upper level, along with a lean-to extension to its right and a gabled extension to the left. The gabled extension contains a granary accessed via a door with plain reveals and a short flight of stone steps. To the left of the granary door is a one-light chamfered window. A doorway with plain reveals is located on the north wall of this extension, at a lower level. The north barn gable has three ventilation slits on the first floor. The east wall, visible from the road, includes a threshing door and ventilation slits on the first floor. On the ground floor are three shippon doors with plain reveals, alongside a wide stable door with a plain sandstone surround and a window with a similar surround. A tall stable door with plain reveals is present on the left-hand extension. Internally, the barn features four trusses with softwood tie beams and re-used hardwood principals. The building is listed for group value.
