Description
This building is a bank barn located approximately 25 meters southeast of Garth's Farmhouse. It dates from the earlier 18th century, with a significant addition made in the 19th century. The barn is constructed from mixed random rubble with sandstone quoins, featuring a stone slate roof on the original section and a blue slate roof on the later addition. The structure has an L-plan layout, with the original small barn oriented east-west and built into the slope, while the 19th-century extension is at right angles, forming a long south wing parallel to the slope.
The earlier part of the barn includes an earth ramp leading to a wagon doorway on the north side, which has a timber lintel. There is also a shippon doorway in the west gable that features a re-used moulded stone lintel and through-stones above it. The west front of the 19th-century section has three shippon doorways and two windows next to the outer doorway, which were apparently formerly doorways. Above the second opening, there is a loading doorway, and a recent wooden dovecote is attached to the right. The rear of this section has a wagon doorway in the center, protected by a gabled porch, along with a recent lean-to shelter to the right. Additionally, the north gable has a lean-to extension.
Inside, the earlier section features one queen-strut roof truss. The barn is part of a group with Garth's Farmhouse.
