Description

79 and 81 Main Street are a pair of town houses, likely built in the early to mid 19th century, with some alterations. The exterior features slobbered mixed random rubble and a hipped slate roof. The unique layout includes a wide through-passage at ground level, with each house having its own "front" door on either side.

The building stands three storeys high and has three symmetrical windows. At the center of the ground floor, there is a wide semi-elliptical archway made of dressed voussoirs and an arch-band, which is now closed off by a wooden and glazed screen. This screen likely resembled the one at the rear but has since been modified to include double doors flanked by plain-glazed windows, all topped with an overlight featuring four Tudor-arched lights.

Stone walls approximately 2 meters high enclose small service yards on either side of the archway. The first floor showcases tall 20-pane sash windows, while the second floor has shorter 16-pane sashes. There are chimneys on the side walls and a skylight in the center of the roof. Each house features a 19th-century six-panel door in the passage, and at the rear, there is a wooden and glazed screen with small-paned glazing. However, the rear windows have been replaced with plastic double-glazing. The interior has not been inspected.
