Description

A wheelwright's cottage and workshop, dating from the late 18th century, and subsequently altered, now serves as a house and antique shop. The building is constructed of roughly-coursed mixed rubble with quoins to the left side, and has a slate roof. It forms an L-shape, comprising a two-unit front range—a cottage to the left and a former wheelwright's shop to the right—with a rear wing extending from the cottage.

The front of the building is two and three stories high, with two windows. The cottage section features a doorway with a moulded architrave, a cornice supported by consoles, and a panelled door. To the left are three vertically-aligned hornless sash windows with 16, 12, and 6 panes respectively, all featuring raised plain surrounds and deep reveals, now painted. The former wheelwright’s shop to the right has a large segmental-headed wagon doorway constructed with rubble voussoirs and a cement surround, containing board double doors, each with a fixed 16-pane window. Above the doorway is a single large hornless sash window with 16 panes and a surround similar to those on the cottage.

Inside the cottage, original features include board doors with lug hinges and a wooden sphere to the doorway, likely once part of a hinged curtain rail.
