Description

A pair of houses located on New Street in Sedbergh, likely built in the mid to later 19th century. The houses are constructed of coursed mixed rubble and have a graduated slate roof. They follow a double-depth plan, with each house having a single frontage, although No. 3 is significantly wider than No. 5. The buildings are three stories high and feature 3+1 windows.

Each house has a doorway with panelled pilasters, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice. Both doorways have recessed panelled doors, but the doorway at No. 3 is taller, accommodating steps and an overlight due to the street's slope. No. 3 has two large rectangular sash windows on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and two square sashes on the second floor, all with margin panes. No. 5 features one similar window on each floor. A ridge chimney is positioned to the right (at the junction between the two houses), and a gable chimney is located to the left. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected. The pair forms part of a prominent group of buildings in the town centre, alongside Nos. 7 and 9 to the right.
