Description

A former agricultural building, likely a barn, was converted into two dwellings. The structure probably dates to the 18th century, with subsequent conversion in the 19th century; renovation of number 18 was ongoing at the time of inspection. The walls are of roughly-coursed mixed rubble with large, irregular quoins. The building has a roughly L-shaped layout, comprising a main range running parallel to the street and a rear wing attached to number 19 on the right.

The exterior is three stories high, featuring three irregular windows at the first floor level. Number 18, to the left, originally had a segmental-headed wagon entrance, now blocked with dry rubble walling, and includes a restored 12-pane sash window above it, protected by a slate drip-course. To the left of this is a former doorway similarly converted into a 12-pane sash window, while above it is a smaller 12-pane sash window with renewed joinery. The top floor has a small square 6-pane fixed window. An entrance doorway in the left end wall, leading from a covered alley, retains a studded board door with Y-shaped strap hinges, though these may be repositioned. Number 19 has a doorway with a board door, sheltered by a simple porch of monolithic stone slabs and a pitched roof of two large green slates. It has four-pane sashed windows flanking the doorway, and a large four-pane sashed window above the doorway, protected by a slate drip-band, possibly formerly a loading door. A further four-pane sash windows match those on the ground floor, and a small 6-pane fixed window is situated in the centre of the second floor. Gable chimneys are present.

The interior was not inspected. The building forms a group with number 20, adjoining to the right.
