Description
4 and 5 Church Square are a pair of town houses built in the early 19th century. They feature coursed rubble walls with brick jambs and nearly flat arches, topped by a rag slate roof that has two hipped roof dormers with 12-pane sash windows and brick end stacks. The houses have a cast-iron ogee gutter and a double-depth plan. They stand two storeys plus an attic and have a four-window-range front. The original windows are 16-pane hornless sashes. The central doorways have inverted arch-over-arch overlights and six-panel doors, which include flush-beaded bottom panels and later glazed top panels. Both doorways are framed by a single porch supported by three Tuscan granite columns and a moulded wooden entablature. The interiors have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
