Description

No. 4, Castle Street is an early to mid-19th century public house, later converted into a private house. The exterior is incised stucco on rubble construction, with a bitumen-grouted rag slate roof, moulded eaves cornices, brick end stacks, and cast-iron ogee gutters. The building follows a double-depth plan and presents a symmetrical three-window facade. It features original 12-pane hornless sash windows. The central doorway has a flat pilastered surround with a moulded entablature and cornice, topped with a rectangular fanlight containing margin panes. The door itself is a four-panel design with coloured glass to the top panels. The interior was not inspected, but is likely of interest.
