Description

Townhead Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of limewashed rubble with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a gabled cross-wing on the right side that contains the entrance on the left. This entrance has a moulded surround and a 20th-century door with a slate hood above it.

On the front gable end of the bay, there is a former two-light double chamfered window on the ground floor, which has been converted to a single light and features a slate hoodmould. The upper floor has a former three-light window, now also a single light, with a chamfered design and a central lintel. A gable end stack is present.

To the left on the ground floor, there is a mid-19th-century window, a lowered chamfered window, and a former five-light chamfered mullioned window, which has been reduced to three lights with only the king mullion and the right-hand mullion remaining. The remains of a former slate dripmould can still be seen. On the upper floor, there is a mid-19th-century window, a blocked former two-light chamfered mullioned window, and a right-hand former three-light chamfered mullioned window, which is now a single light. There are also 20th-century casements. The building features a left-hand ridge stack at the former gable and a right-of-centre ridge stack.
