Description
Lark Rise Cottage is a cottage dated 1801 with origins from the 17th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble brought to course, with millstone grit dressings and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has two bays. The left-hand jamb of the entrance, which is located to the right of center, abuts the former gable end of the 17th-century building. The entrance features a moulded surround, a gabled hood, and a datestone inscribed with "JG" (J Green); the door dates from around 1970. There are two ground floor and two upper floor two-light flat faced mullioned windows, with 20th-century casements. The right-hand side includes a shaped kneeler, gable end coping, and a ridge stack.
Inside, the front left-hand room contains an arched cupboard from around 1800, adorned with fluted Doric pilasters and a palmette frieze with swags to the cornice. The front right-hand room features an early 19th-century fireplace with a plain surround and mantle supported by two moulded stone corbels. There is also a crane and range from around 1800 made by T Altham & Son, Penrith.
