GV II

Combined barn, cart shed, shippon (etc). Probably C17 and C19; altered. Mixed rubble with quoins, slate and stone slate roofs. L-plan formed by main range on north-south axis with lean-to cart shed attached to west side and bank barn added to east side of north end. The cart shed, extending almost the full width, with a cat-slide roof, has a pair of square-headed wagon doorways in the southern half, and a smaller garage doorway at the north end. The south gable has one small and one large window at ground floor and a 4-tiered pigeon-cote in the gable. The east side, with through-stones on 4 levels, has a chamfered 1-light window on each floor near the south end, a doorway in the centre, and a small lean-to in the angle with bank barn. The south side of the bank barn has a shippon doorway in the centre, an oblong window to the left and 2 small rectangular windows to the right; the north side has an outshut to the left with a catslide roof, and a wagon doorway in the centre protected by a pentice roof carried across from this. Early C19 roof trusses. Forms group with Burton Hill Farmhouse (qv) and washhouse to north of that (qv). Similar in plan and phasing to barns at Gap (qv) and Hewthwaite (qv).
