Description

This is a milestone located at SD 628 933, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of painted stone and has a semicircular shape on a square base with broaches at the angles. The inscription reads: "BB : KL/5¾ : 10¾", where "BB" stands for Borrow Bridge and "KL" stands for Kirkby Lonsdale. There is also a benchmark at the base. The milestone is situated on the Sedbergh to Grayrigg turnpike road, which was established in 1762.
